It’s happened to all of us. We go to leave our house and we realize that we have left our keys inside. We try all of the doors, but they are all locked. What do you do? If you’re like most people, you probably call a locksmith. But what if you don’t have a locksmith’s number handy? Or what if you’re stranded in a strange city and don’t know anyone who can help? In cases like these, it’s helpful to know some basic door lock-out techniques. In this blog post, we will teach you how to get back into your house without a key!
1. The first thing you need to do is relax
Getting locked out can be stressful, but it is important to remain calm. If you panic, it will only make the situation worse.
2. Use a Credit Card
Once you have calmed down, take a look at the door that you are trying to enter. Is there a way to open it without a key? For example, some doors have a small hole in the center of the doorknob. This is called a deadbolt, and it can be opened with a credit card or other thin piece of plastic.
3. Use a bobby pin or paperclip
If your door does not have a deadbolt, there are still other ways to get inside. One method is to use a bobby pin or paperclip to pick the lock. This is called lock picking, and it is a skill that everyone should know. If you don’t have a bobby pin or paper clip, you can also use a hairpin or straighten out a paper clip.
Once you have picked the lock, turn the knob and open the door. If your door has a chain lock, you will need to use the paperclip or bobby pin to push the button on the side of the door. This will release the chain and allow you to open the door.
4. Try kicking in the door
If you are still having trouble getting into your house, you can try kicking in the door. This should only be done as a last resort, as it can damage the door. To kick in a door, put your foot near the doorknob and kick the door as hard as you can. The door should open slightly. If it doesn’t, try kicking it again with more force.
5. Look around and check your belongings
Once you are inside, take a look around and see if anything looks out of place. If you think that someone has broken into your house, it is important to call the police immediately.
